DIY Felt Boards

The weather here has been all over the place lately so I have been looking for ideas on how to keep two toddlers entertained when we can't go outside without relying on too much television.  The last couple of times that we have been to Playgroup they have had Felt Boards out and Miss M has been captivated by them and played for quite some time. So I decided it was about time to make some of our own. They are so simple and you are only limited by your imagination!

I started with some thick cardboard (that I had collected from who knows where!), some felt rectangles and spray adhesive.
I trimmed the felt to fit the size of the cardboard that I had, then very simply followed the directions on the spray adhesive. Which was to spray a coat of adhesive to the cardboard and the felt, leave for a minute and then I gently popped the felt onto the cardboard being careful to smooth out any bumps.

I allowed them to dry over night and then they were ready to go.

Then I cut out a variety of shapes to be used on the board, hearts, circles, rectangles, clouds, triangles, what ever I could think of  or the children were asking for at the time!
One of Master E's creations, his Robot with all it's buttons and a heart!
We hope you enjoy our ideas and please feel free to share you own.

Colour Sorting using Car Pictures

Master E is car mad and loves pasting so we decided to combine the two and do pasting with car pictures and threw in some colour sorting just for fun.
We started with six different coloured pieces of paper, a glue stick and a pile of car pictures I had cut out of magazines (got to love the op shop!)

Ready to get started.

Getting the hang of matching the colour of the cars to the colour of the paper.

Being very industrious!

The finished pages, since we didn't come across any green cars in our pile we made the pages into a book with a green cover. Master E has been very keen to read his car book regularly!

Master E and I had a great time working on the car sorting together. He got the hang of matching the colours very quickly and needed less of my help than I thought.
We will be trying this one again soon, however with motor bikes next time!

Treasure Hunting (for pegs)!!!

My Cheeky Monkey's absolutely love clothes pegs and since we are in the lead up to Easter I thought we might need a bit of hunting practice. This was a really quick and easy activity to set up ( I quickly hid approx 30 clothes pegs around our undercover area of the backyard for Master E and Miss M to collect all while they watched an episode of Peppa Pig!)

So here is what we had 2 buckets (1 for each monkey) and lots of clothes pegs.

Since Miss M is only 18 months and Master E is 2.5years I made sure not to make the hiding too difficult.

Some more of our hidden pegs!

As soon as Master E walked out the back door he commented  "ohhhh Mummy Pegs." So I gave him and Miss M a bucket and set them off.

There was lots of talking about on and off when they moved the pegs. Lots of under and on top of. Some sharing also occurred when Master E realised Miss M didn't have many pegs he helped her find some and then gave her some of his own!

Pegs were in the most unusual places!

Of course the pegs had to go for a ride in the back of the bike.

Found some more on the gate.

And in the garden!

Once we had collected all the pegs it led to a discussion about who had more and we had to do a quick count, followed by some colour sorting.

Our simple Treasure Hunt ended up being a bit of a Maths Lesson with lots of directional words used, some counting and sorting. Not bad for having fun!!!
